New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is pleased to introduce Alicia Ehni, Program Officer for NYFA Learning and multidisciplinary artist, as the newest addition to its NYFA Coaching roster. The program offers organizations, artists, creatives, students, and arts administrators online opportunities to receive practical and actionable career advice from industry professionals and specialized NYFA staff.
Ehni is available for individual consultations in Spanish and English on strategic planning for artists, including building gallery relations and accessing local and international opportunities. She can offer feedback on residency and fellowship applications, grant proposals, marketing plans, and portfolios. You can register for 20-minute, 30-minute, or 45-minute online sessions with Ehni; session prices range from $40 – $85. Please check the NYFA Coaching page for details and to make your appointment. Ehni works on many professional development programs as part of NYFA Learning, including the Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program where she edits The Immigrant Artist Program (IAP) Newsletter. She also serves on the Support for Individual Artists committee of Grantmakers in the Arts (GIA) and is the former NY Chapter Chair for Membership at ArtTable. In her previous role as Director of Frederico Seve Gallery/Latincollector, Ehni had the opportunity to work with artists Carmen Herrera and Fanny Sanin, and with artist estates including Fundación Gego and Fundación Emilio Sanchez.
As a multidisciplinary artist, the Lima, Perú-born Ehni is best known for her geometric sculptures and symmetrical sculptural pairs made from mixed media and stone. For the last fifteen years, she has used pure geometry and pre-Columbian iconography to address territory concerns and bring focus to the changing landscape of mountains and deserts, particularly in Peru. Her awards and accolades include 2020 and 2019 MASS MoCA residencies, a 2019 Puffin Foundation Grant, being selected as an Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts 2018-19 SHIFT Resident Artist, and being recognized as a 2018 fellow of the NALAC Leadership Institute.
Ehni’s solo exhibitions include Paracas, Time Stopped Beneath the Sand, Museo Julio C. Tello, Perú (2020); Coordenadas Distantes, ICPNA-Perú (2016); Reflejos de Piedra, Galería Lucía de la Puente, Perú (2015); and Turning Stone, Frederico Seve Gallery/Latincollector, NY (2013).
Ehni studied fine arts at Universidad Católica in Perú and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, as well as arts administration at New York University. She is currently pursuing an MFA degree in combined media at Hunter College, NY.
