Program jointly administered by New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) and the New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON), with funding from NYSCA.

Forty organizations across New York State have been selected to participate in the NYSCA Stabilization Program for Small Arts Organizations, a new pilot program designed to help participants to identify and solve a significant concern that is impeding their growth or development. It is jointly administered by the New York Council of Nonprofits, Inc. (NYCON) and New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), with funding support from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA).

The program sought nonprofits at a critical stage of their growth who demonstrate a clear, strategic goal that can be achieved through a combination of tailored advisory services and financial support. The selected nonprofits are based in New York State outside of New York City, with an operating budget of up to $1 million. BIPOC-led and community-based organizations were strongly encouraged to apply.

The selected nonprofits will work with consulting specialists to strengthen their operations in such functional areas as fiscal management, fund development, IT, human resources, board development, marketing, and partnership building. While the focus of each project is unique to the organization, some expected outcomes will include creating and implementing new processes or software, conducting audience surveys and analysis, improving board impact, and crafting new strategic or fundraising plans to take the organization into its next phase of growth.

Upon successful completion of assessment and consultation, participants will be regranted funds to assist in further stabilizing their nonprofits. Re-grants can be up to $10,000, and may cover the purchase of a particular software or equipment, continued professional development, or additional consulting or coaching services, etc.

NYSCA is proud to work with NYFA and NYCON on this critical opportunity that will support this diverse group of small organizations to grow and continue to be an important part of their communities and our state for years to come. Congratulations to all.”

Speaking of the support that is going to the participants, Megan Allen, CEO, New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON) said: “We are grateful to NYSCA for our long-standing partnership and their vision for this comprehensive program. The vast amount of deep support that we will be able to provide will be a game changer for these arts organizations and we are excited to be started on this work. I also want to thank NYFA for their collaboration and insights as we’ve worked together to develop this program.”

Highlighting the longer-term impact of the program, Michael Royce, CEO, New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) said: “The health of local arts communities across this state is bolstered by the services and support of small arts organizations.
