Tip of the week

One advantage of online job interviews? You have full control of what hiring managers can and cannot see of your surroundings. And while we strongly recommend that you prepare your interview attire and environment just as if you’re seeing your interviewer in real life, there’s one resource you can use specifically in a virtual scenario: cue cards! If there are important topics you wish to address during your meeting, put them on paper and keep them in your line of sight—ideally ahead of you and not on your desk, so you can glance at them discreetly. One cue card example? Key figures that underscore targets that you hit or exceeded in previous positions. Remember: cue cards are just a safeguard tool should you blank on key information. Don’t write full sentences and read them aloud verbatim—hiring managers will notice that, no matter how natural you believe you’re sounding. A thorough interview rehearsal is still the best way to make sure your meeting runs smoothly.
